![]() |
Welcome to a journey toward joy-filled, meaningful eating. This curriculum is designed to help participants connect food and faith, with an emphasis on the value of eating local, seasonal foods. Based on themes in the Simply in Season cookbook of Mennonite Central Committee's World Community Cookbook series, these material are designed for use by adult or youth Sunday School classes or small groups. The curriculum includes six core sessions and seven optional ones. A unique feature of this material is that the "textbook" is actually the cookbook. This leader's guide includes a preface, session guides, suggestions for spreading the word about this study, and a list of resources.
The Sessions
1. Food Stories - They shall all sit under their own vines and their own fig trees, and they shall live in peace and unfraid" (Micah 4:4)
2. Creation - "Yahweh, what variety you have created arranging everything so wisely: Earth is completely full of things you have made." (Psalm 104:24)
3. Health - "The earth brought forth vegetation...trees of every kind bearing fruit with the seed in it. And God saw that it was good." (Genesis 1:12)
4. Time - "For everything there is a season...a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted." (Ecclesiastes 3:1,2)
5. Money - "The field of the poor may yield much food, but it is swept away through injustice." (Proverbs 13:23)
6. Celebration - "May there be abundance of grain in the land; may it wave on the tops of the mountains." (Psalm 72:16)
