"Annie was happier than she had ever been and thankful that God had led her to the Amish faith. All the relatives included her in the lineage of Ellie's People. At last Annie had a home."
An Amish family opens their hearts and home to a deserted child, Pearlie Mae. They change her name to Annie and raise her in the Amish way. Annie keeps wondering if her birth mother will ever come back. She finds love and security with the Troyers, but not all is well. Lucy is jealous of attention Annie receives. Annie runs to her mother's Leaning Tree and looks to God's Hills for help.
Later Annie works for families as a babysitter and maid. She joins the Amish church and goes to youth singings. Boys keep asking to give her rides--till a beau declares himself. With compassion from the Amish community, Annie finds her own home.
"Incorporates many Amish words, followed by translations in parenthesis. It would be an excellent choice for multicultural education in the classroom, as the author shares the Amish lifestyle in detail."
