"With plain speech and a direct style, Ewert harnesses the insights of critical scholarship in an effort to improve biblical literacy among the body of believers. A quite useful guide for serious students of the Bible." Jay Marshall, Earlham School of Religion

Have you ever wondered if you understood certain passages in the Bible correctly? Have you puzzled over differing applications of the Bible in the church? David Ewert’s How to Understand the Bible can help you avoid serious pitfalls in interpreting and applying the Bible.

From a lifetime of interpreting and proclaiming the Word of God, Ewert shares guidelines on studying the Scriptures. He explains literary forms, idioms, and figures of speech from ancient cultures so we can understand their meanings for today. With apt illustrations, Ewert deals with many typical questions. He encourages all who look to the Scriptures for light on their daily path, strength in times of need, and hope for the age to come.

With 13 chapters and a select bibliography, this book would be useful for a Sunday school class or individual study.

"Helpful to all evangelical readers. Of benefit for thousands of small Bible-study groups as well as for careful work in Christian education programs." —Myron S. Augsburger, Educator, Harrisonburg, Virginia
