Detective Stan Windmere's son, a sailor in the U.S. Navy, disappears in the frozen tundra of Russia, and Stan finds himself unable to focus on his job. He soon learns of another lost son, Clayton Kratz, who also disappeared in Russia - in 1920. Stan dives into this mystery and prepares for the truth that his own son, like Kratz, may never come home.
"Judy Clemens effectively captures a complex community through the eyes of the troubled Stan Windmere, who is pulled into the mystery of Clayton Kratz - a loss too similar to his own. As Clemens weaves believable and complex characters, we find ourselves connecting with Stan's desperate search and craving answers with him." - Anna Groff, The Mennonite
"A rare blend of detective story, family tale, and documentary that keeps us guessing. We are swept to the story's surprising and emotional culmination, and we absorb both authentic history and a spiritual testimony that I hope will be heard by every young Mennonite - and any lover of a good read." - John L. Ruth, filmmaker, author of The Earth is the Lord's
