"Our stand was near the corner of Duke and Orange streets in Lancaster.
Dad parked our market car at the curb. He formed a market stand by laying the side racks across several bushel boxes. Our family usually sold out their produce by midafternoon.
"In the evening after supper, when we had settled down, Dad would have us all come to the table to count the market money. After the money had been counted, Dad would say, ‘Well, that is what the family wages were this week.’ It made me proud to be included as one of the wage earners." --Levi B. Weber
The Possum Hollow series tells the story of Levi B. Weber’s childhood and youth in Virginia and Pennsylvania in the early 1900s. This second book shows the family taking possession of their Possum Hollow farm and takes Levi through his early school years.
Join Levi as he works on the family farm, daydreams about trucks and automobiles (Model Ts just don’t measure up), receives his first book as a present, builds a dam, and learns about spending money and banking.
Through stories and dialogue, Possum Hollow shows what it was like to be a child in the eastern states back then. Levi deals with experiences, dreams, and fears. He wonders about the meaning of life and faith.
Adults, teens, and children (ages 9 and up) will be drawn into this story of Levi’s early 20th-century world.
