"This book is a good antidote to the notion that one has to choose between evangelism and peacemaking, or between identity and mission. We CAN be different from the surrounding cultures and yet engage those cultures with the gospel." --Lois Barrett, Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary

In this long-awaited and eagerly anticipated study of the Mennonite Church USA in the twenty-first century, author Conrad L. Kanagy finds crisis and disruption of such proportions that he compares the church today to God's people in the days of the prophet Jeremiah. Babylon approaches, and exile looms.

With data from a 2006 survey of Mennonite Church USA members, Kanagy provides spiritual and sociological markers of the church today. He notes changes since surveys of Mennonites in 1972 and 1989, and compares the denomination with other U.S. faith traditions. Kanagy's pastoral and missional perspective points to signs of hope and renewal.

Kanagy offers a pastoral and missional perspective on the church's direction and points to signs of hope and renewal. He urges modern Mennonites to "take note of the highway, the road that you take" (Jeremiah 31:21) as they discern God's movement in a changing and unpredictable world.

"Perhaps we can seriously discern the seasonal changes upon us and all the challenges and opportunities they present. Road Signs for the Journey offers a guide that prayerfully positions us, both individually and congregationally, for the harvest that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ promises!" --Leonard M. Dow, pastor of Oxford Circle Mennonite Church, Philadelphia
