Social MinistryAn Urgent Agenda for Pastors and Churches by Haskell M. Miller |
|
"Clergy and laity alike will benefit from reading Social Ministry. Written with clarity and fervor, this book is a superb guide to how local churches can relate the gospel to the conditions of community life, both nearby and far away. I highly recommend it!" —John D. Godsey, Professor Emeritus of Systematic Theology, Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, D.C.
Passionately and directly, Haskell M. Miller addresses pastors, asking them to take seriously the importance of social ministry. Though too often neglected by pastors, social action is an integral and vital part of pastoral responsibility.
In twelve chapters, Miller offers a step-by-step guide to understanding issues of justice; the pastor’s social responsibility; social action types, theology, and challenges. Undergirding it all is the "urgent imperative" for pastors to act.
Pastors and congregational leaders will find Social Ministry stimulating, and lay persons will find this a useful study book.
"Social Ministry is easily read and eminently practical, as Miller challenges pastors to go beyond the superficial." --J. Philip Wogaman, Senior Minister, Foundry United Methodist Church, in the Foreword
