"Search for a Fawn is a delicately written book about the meaning of brotherhood. It explores in a sensitive manner the way two brothers learn to accept a younger stepbrother while dealing with the loss of their grandfather. It is guaranteed to tug one’s heartstrings and should be shared with all children." --Dr. William S. Bingman, Frostburg State University

"Ed the storekeeper saw the albino fawn on this very farm," the three boys tell Grandma.

"Your dad and mom will be away for two weeks," says Grandma. "Maybe the three of you can find it."

So begins the search for the elusive white fawn—two weeks of adventure for Skeet, Copper, and Tucker. Alone with Grandma, they map the farm, explore the mine area, and sleep outside waiting for the fawn to appear.

Copper grieves for Grandpa, who would have found the fawn for them if he hadn’t died. He feels jealous of his younger stepbrother, Tucker, who "doesn’t belong." Yet he begins to care for Tucker as they share a campfire and some scary times.

One of Tucker’s good hunches leads the two of them into the most frightening night of their lives. Before it’s over, Copper learns about being brothers.
