"If the archetypal 'ugly American' is arrogant and intolerant, then Jennifer Drago can only be named a 'beautiful American.' With a compassionate soul, an open heart, a curious mind, and a humble spirit, Drago has written a poignant and inspiring chronicle of a compelling cross-cultural experience, founded on her keen observations and spiced with her refreshing sense of humor." - Joyce Hollyday, author of Then Shall Your Light Rise: Spiritual Formation and Social Witness

Two years after September 11, 2001, many Christians and others in the west had turned a cold shoulder and a blind eye to Muslims in the Middle East. Jennifer Drago and her family saw things differently. The responded to a radical call that uprooted them from their life and work with refugees in the United States and planted them among Muslims and Coptic Christians in Egypt. Jennifer now recounts the challenges and rewards of this eye-opening journey into the heart of the Islamic world.

"This American family's unusual immersion into the life of upper Egypt leaves one marveling at their courage and call. Fighting 'terror' with tea and friendships, they navigated a confusing maze of cultures, classes, and religions with amazing grace and pluck." - Jewel Showalter, Eastern Mennonite Missions
