What Is Palestine-Israel: Introduction
The combined name Palestine-Israel only hints at the deep fissures dividing this land. An introductory booklet like this one can only offer a brief glimpse of such a complex conflict. Mennonites in Canada and the United States regularly ask Mennonite workers in Palestine-Israel about the complexities of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. This book presents some of the questions Mennonite workers in Palestine regularly receive from supporters in Canada, the United States, and beyond, along with straightforward answers. While the book grew out of the experience of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), a relief, development, and peacebuilding agency of Mennonite and Brethren in Christ churches in Canada and the United States, it also pays attention to the work of other Mennonite mission and peacebuilding agencies in the country.
This booklet is organized by theme, but all of the areas are inter-related. You may jump in and out of the text according to your interest. Please remember that what you are reading is a necessarily simplified treatment of a complicated situation. For those wishing to learn more about Palestine-Israel, the final section includes resources for further information.
